AUGUST MEETING REPORT:

Great turnout AGAIN! Project cards focused on scrap crafting a card and decorating an Accucut envelope, making a pocket card from a 6x12 sheet, and creating a darling purse from a template created from the 3D Challenge Group on Paper Craft Planet by Adela, suitable for use as a favor or clever gift idea. Our OWH card was a duplicate of our scrap crafted card without any bulk. In all, we created 3 very clever and useful cards and projects plus donated a card to Operation Write Home soldiers. I would love to hear what else you did with your card ideas!

Door prizes were won by Cindy, Mary Ann and our newest member, Lisa. Our recipe swap pocket cards were totally awesome!

SEPTEMBER SWAP: Pumpkins!

I really enjoy how we as a group discuss the next month’s swap card theme. We unanimously agreed that we don’t mail Halloween cards. After tossing around ideas, we came up with creating a card with pumpkins on it! You can certainly make a Halloween card if you wish, but it must have a pumpkin somewhere as a focal point. Be sure to include a card for our Everson Tree! Only 3 months left to donate to our precious club event!

SEPTEMBER PROJECT: Seasonal Surprise!

There is so much out there for me to choose from for card projects! The Shoppe is getting is Impression Obsession stamps and new papers from Basic Grey, Jenni Bowlin and Webster’s to name a few. The new WeR fall paper line is in and is AWESOME!!!! I’d like to surprise you (again) with a combination of all of the above for September’s meeting.

JULY MEETING REPORT
Great turnout! We added something new this month that will be a regular component of our monthly meetings. We are donating a card to Operation Write Home (OWH) the organization that collects hand crafted cards and sends them to our military for their use when sending mail to their own families. We actually had enough time and materials to make two cards. I’m very excited about this added feature and I hope you are too. Basically, we are using the design from one of our project cards and replicating it for OWH.

This month was all about Clean and Simple (CAS) cards – something I’ve never done as a design style with club. We made four cards altogether each with their own unique designs. I think my favorite was using the October Afternoon diecuts as our base card front and added embellishments from there. We learned a lot about making fast cards that didn’t look lame.

Door prizes were won by Mercedes, Cindy and Amy. Our wedding swap cards were stunning and were a fun change to our swap themes.

AUGUST SWAP: Pocket Card and Recipe Tuck-in!
Linda W. was showing me a recipe swap she’s involved in, which gave me the inspiration for our club swap this month! Over the years, we’ve made pocket cards to hold gift cards, tags, and whatever else. Our swap is to write a favorite summer recipe on a 3x5 recipe card and then tuck it into a pocket card! I liked this idea so well, I’m doing this on my Paper Craft Planet Group too! Remember a card for the Everson!

Besides our 12x12 recipe card paper line, my friend Christi over at Paper Craft Planet has provided several sites for free printable recipe cards, some of which can be typed onto and then printed on cardstock!

http://www.freeprintablerecipecards.net/category/new
(This site you can print FREE recipe cards with or without lines.)

http://www.bellybytes.com/recipe/recipe_cards.html
(This one even has some FREE House Mouse recipe cards!)

http://tipnut.com/free-printable-recipe-cards-a-nice-collection/
(This site has TONS of FREE printable recipe cards!)

http://alenkasprintables.com/1/35/35a.htm
(This site allows you to choose the FREE recipe card you want to use.
Then type everything for your recipe into the “fill-in-the-blank” boxes.
This is the way to go, if you don’t like handwriting recipes out.)

I just found another wonderful site for FREE PRINTABLE recipe cards! It's the HP (Hewlet Packer) website. I just printed out my recipe card for August and was able to put a photo of myself onto the recipe card! How cool is that????? Pretty darn cool if ya ask me. hehehe

JUNE MEETING REPORT

Four cards were presented using Graphic 45 Boardwalk images. We worked with vertical and horizontal orientations of the focal vintage photo and I gave ideas of how to complete the card with just a few embellishments. We also used the new Tweety Jill line of stamps and some of the clipart images and papers from the 12x12 paper pack. A fun night of card making was had by all!

We swapped our red, white and blue star themed cards and had 4 door prizes that were won by Amy, Cindy and Linda W and Mary Ann.
JULY SWAP: Wedding Card
Since Amy is getting married in September, I think it would be sweet to make a wedding card for our July swap! Use any colors and any stamps you wish. Remember a card for the Everson!

Three cards were created that involved coffee, tea and a dessert cupcake! Fun card creations using A muse and Hero Arts stamps. The cupcake was my favorite ‘cuz I totally changed the Hero cupcake into a pattern and made the top out of pink glitter paper! All the cards were finished on the inside too.

We swapped our masculine themed cards and had 3 door prizes that were won by Amy, Cindy and Linda W. Definitely a fun evening was had by all.

APRIL MEETING REPORT

A nice turnout for our National Scrapbooking Day kick-off celebration. We made 4 cards – all using new papers in the Shoppe: Bo Bunny, Nikki Silvis, We R Memory Keepers, and Prima. My personal card fav was the 3d flower card that was created with the new Tim Holtz Sizzix diecut flowers. Our other cards worked with scrapbooking papers from a cardmaking perspective. We learned how to better analyze 12x12 pattern papers to visualize them into card designs.

A favorite part of the evening was the card swap as it was based on using inspiration from something found at home. Each of us showed the color inspiration item used to create the card and then we showed the card. We brought a pasta box, a couple of Jello boxes, a dog food bag, a Starbucks flyer, Girlscout cookie box, a pantyliner box and some other packaging that I can’t remember. We totally had fun with this swap. Some of the colors were dead center on in the card design!

As part of our National Scrapbooking Day celebration, we had 6 doorprizes! Jane made some darling fabric flower corsages from the same Tim Holtz die as our flower card and she put one into the door prize mix. Needless to say, that was scooped up very quickly!

MAY SWAP: Masculine

Working one month ahead means Father’s Day in June and we just naturally gravitate toward a masculine themed card, but it doesn’t have to be for Father’s Day. It can be a birthday, thank you, thinking of you, get well, or any occasion you feel like. Remember a card for the Everson!

MAY PROJECT: Coffee/Tea Lovers Cards

I’ve been wanting to make some coffee themed cards and since Kathy did her Starbucks card, I’ve really been craving it! Let’s not leave out the tea drinkers though. Hey, maybe we’ll throw in a cupcake card for a little dessert with our coffee and tea! Yum!

SPRING FLING POST SCRIPT: We had a marvelous turnout for Spring Fling on April 10. As some of you may or may not know, I am no longer in charge of the event and have passed the wand onto the capable hands of Stampin’ & Scrappin’ Time to better spread out the numerous details that go into making this event happen. As we continue receiving feedback from the event participants, we are hearing from two camps of people: one camp likes the pace of the event and the quantity of cards and projects just fine. The other camp feels pushed and could use one less card at each round in order to have the opportunity to finish. This poses an interesting discussion topic for the instructors as we plan and discuss Holiday Impressions, October 2, 2010. Stay tuned for updates as we go forward!

NATIONAL SCRAPBOOK DAY POST SCRIPT: I hope a lot of you had the opportunity to participate in our Shoppe’s festivities to celebrate this event. I know we had something going on for 4 days straight! It felt like a holiday at the Shoppe! How do you like the new classroom configuration? I loved it for Club night as people weren’t so bunched and could spread out better. Thanks to all who participated! Next, it’s all about National Card Makers Day - date TBA!

Good stuff coming in daily. Call the Shoppe for more details! 315-633-5325.

FEBRUARY MEETING REPORT

Last night’s meeting was all about scrap crafting, which simply means that we focus on paper crafting our cards more than stamping an image. We see a lot of scrap crafting in magazines and I believe it is as a result of scrapbookers getting involved in card making or, there are so many wonderful papers out there for scrapbookers that we card makers want to get in on all the fun!

Anyway, our 3 cards were all paper crafted in very distinctly different ways. We used one word stamp for all 3 cards that worked very well. One card was stamped on the outside and the other two cards were stamped on the inside. We added some finishing touches to the insides for a more complete look. We also learned another 3d flower technique that was simple and fun to make. Next month, I’ll add a third flower technique since they are so much fun to make. When constructing a card, I pointed out how I look at 12x12 papers. The designs we worked with were very large, graphic and not necessarily suitable for a card front. That doesn’t stop me though as I look to see how I can cut up designs. We found mushrooms that made a great scallop border, large flowers that could easily be cut out and mounted, and even cut out a cute bird for the inside of one card! I hope I gave everyone some new ways to look at papers ‘cuz as most of you know…paper speaks to me…and there’s just a ton of ways for card makers to look at it when card crafting!

We welcomed two new people to Club, Maria and Kristy. Six door prizes were won by Mary Ann, Linda W, Linda F, Paulette, Maria, Cindy. Swap cards were beautifully made and cards were generously donated to the Everson Tree. I want to personally thank all who donated extra cards to Cindy for her fundraising gift basket to benefit a family who recently lost their 19 year old. I want to give a special shout out to Kay who had tendon surgery yesterday. If you’d like to send her a card, please email me privately and I’ll be happy to give you her address or call the Shoppe and they will have it.

MARCH SWAP: Sketch Challenge – Easter Theme

The February sketch challenge was a big hit and it was unanimous to do a new sketch for March. I went into my numerous resources and borrowed a sketch from my friend, Adela, on Paper Craft Planet that she used last July. I re-sketched it, but I wanted to acknowledge her as the author. So, using the above sketch, you will create an Easter card. I see the circle becoming an egg shape, don’t you? You don’t have to stay with exactly what you see! Have fun!!

MARCH PROJECT: Arbor Day Observance

Arbor Day is a perfect reason to make cards with trees as the focal point. As I showed you in the March/April Papercraft Magazine, there are 11 pages chocked full of cards with tree images. There are trees that are paper pieced, paper pierced, trees made with buttons and brads and lots of sewing. We are sure to have some creative fun celebrating Arbor Day!

JANUARY MEETING REPORT

It was good being back together since our last meeting on Dec. 2 and along with good weather, we had a great turnout. We made two cards and a tag with hearts as the focal point. Each individual piece had some element that was a cute technique. For example, the tag used an Accucut heart that we turned into a darling pocket. One of the cards was a matchbook fold that was cleverly held closed by another Accucut chipboard heart. The second card was inspired by a coin envelope that we covered and then decoratively cut away the top portion to create a cute pocket. The best part of all three projects was simply using the opposite side of the double sided paper as well as all the designs can be re-created just by changing the heart focal point for another shape! Papers used in our projects were My Minds Eye Abbey Road and the new Basic Grey Sugar Rush. Note that these BG papers are double sided, something BG usually does only once a year.

We had five door prizes won by Terry, Mary Ann, Linda W, Jane and Mercedes. Swap cards were beautiful and also cards were generously donated to the Everson Tree. Thanks to Mercedes for adding a bunch of her cards to the Everson donation as well as for helping out a fellow member who forgot her swap card! I hope everyone had a good time at Club. I know I did! FEBRUARY SWAP: Going Green Sketch Challenge

Something totally for us at PAC this month! We will follow a card sketch using green colors. Inspired by this month’s Paper Crafts Magazine, I thought it would be fun and different to make our swap card by following a sketch or recipe of a design as seen in Paper Crafts Magazine, Jan/Feb 2010 issue, page 19, G-to Sketches section. I do this type of creating all the time on Paper Craft Planet and find it very fresh and interesting. So, have fun designing using the layout shown. Bring a second card to donate to the Everson Tree! Terri Anderson has a Bonus Project of this card sketch that you can see at http://www.papercraftsmag.com/

FEBRUARY PROJECT: Green with Envy

Rather than make St. Patrick’s Day cards and in observance of St. Patrick’s Day, Club focuses on the color green. Find out what my interpretation of going green is at our next meeting! If you like orange juice, bread, boxes, music and tissue paper, you’ll love the February meeting! Join me as we incorporate a few items around the house into creative cards that your friends will be green with envy!

EVERSON FESTIVAL OF TREES Post Script!

I received a letter from the Everson Festival committee thanking us for our donation and asking for feedback. Here is my email response for feedback to that letter and the Everson’s follow up response!
Cheryl, As a participant in the Everson 2009 Festival, I appreciate the letter from Barb Godfrey asking for donor input. Our tree has been in the Festival for at least seven years (minus 2008) and it is an important part of what we do at Paper Arts Club of CNY. At each month's meeting, we donate a card to the Everson Tree so that by November, we have collected well over 130 cards for our tree. As far as feedback, I can speak for my Club that we completely enjoy donating a tree every year as it is an extension of what we do anyway. It would, however, be helpful to know if our tree sells. It is priced modestly considering the quality of hand crafted cards on the tree but I just don't know what actually happens to it year after year. There was a woman who bought it in the past to specifically give the cards as gifts and she sent me a note telling me how much she enjoyed our tree. I personally liked the Festival at Shoppingtown this year, but it is my understanding that it was re-located because of the art exhibit at the Museum. For me, it was seamless to walk the tree from the parking lot right into the Bon Ton! Setup at the Museum can be tricky due to parking and the walking distance to the front doors. Whatever you decide for 2010 is fine. You can count on my Club to have a tree at the Festival in 2010 as we begin our donations to it in January! Thank you for the opportunity to make comments and offer suggestions. Lyn Bernatovich, Founder

Lyn, We LOVE your tree and it ALWAYS sells. I have wanted it for three years and I always get beat out. I also feel that it "is priced modestly" but our goal is to sell all the trees and we have to guess the amount that people will be willing to pay. Maybe we should have a small sign better describing the cards. We actually are talking with Shoppingtown about next year. We liked it out there too. Thank you for your past and future support, we really appreciate it. Cheryl
